Brazilian flavor at Winwood’s
José Neto was driving through the leafy Marin burg of Fairfax, where the classically trained Brazilian jazz guitarist and composer has lived since the 1980s, when the Glen Campbell version of Jimmy Webb’s solitary, longing-filled “Wichita Lineman” came on the radio. Neto hadn’t heard the song in a while and it grabbed him all over again.

“That song covers a lot of emotion. There’s sadness, there’s happiness, and it’s romantic,” said Neto, whose creative guitar playing and writing have been put to good use by Flora Purim and Airto, Harry Belafonte, and Steve Winwood, with whom he’s toured, co-written and recorded songs for 10 years, and with whom he performs Saturday night at the Warfield…
